Virginia State Senator Majority Leader Richard Saslaw and his wife, Eleanor, needed a moving company they could trust. They called Interstate Moving & Storage to handle their big transition. For two very inclement days, a highly-trained Interstate crew executed a seamless move despite the weather conditions and several major challenges.
The well-trained crew treated the Saslaw’s and their home with the utmost respect. Working quietly and efficiently, they first moved two large sofas through the basement, closing the door each time they exited or entered the home to keep out the elements.
The crew faced the challenge of moving a valuable antique armoire from the upstairs bedroom. The armoire could not be disassembled. And the stairs were too narrow to safely navigate to the ground floor. Removing the stairway banisters would solve the problem quickly. However, the crew, which had received over 80 hours of intense training before going into the field, decided to take an extra step. They hired a local restoration expert—at no cost to the Saslaw’s—to make certain the banisters could be removed without damaging the home.
The restoration expert determined that the banisters could not be removed without significant risk to the home.
The crew assessed the situation using their training and expertise—it was obvious that the armoire needed to be moved through the bedroom window to the ground below. Hiring a forklift was an option, but this could delay the move several days and would incur significant additional costs for the Saslaws. Trained to operate independently, creatively and with the client’s best interests in mind, the crew devised an alternate plan that would move the armoire safely, keep them on schedule and within the original estimate promised to the Saslaws.
The crew carefully wrapped the 250 lb. armoire and devised a platform system to lower it safely through the bedroom window to the ground below. The armoire arrived at its new location in its original condition. Senator Saslaw was very pleased, writing in a personal letter, “I now know first-hand why Interstate is so successful. I particularly want to comment on the professionalism of your crew.”
